8th Annual CFSC Conference set for October 16-19, 2004
WHY is proud to be a co-sponsor of the 8th Annual CFSC Conference to be held in Milwaukee, WI, this year. The four-day event — co-hosted by the Community Food Security Coalition (CFSC) and Growing Power — will provide "an unparalleled opportunity to connect with food activists and practitioners from across the continent to share experiences and learn about building just and healthy food systems in your community," according to the CFSC.
This year's conference — scheduled for October 16-19 — will be held at the Midwest Airlines Center, located in downtown Milwaukee. The center is adjacent to the Hilton Hotel, where a block of rooms have been reserved for conference attendees.
In addition to a series of field trips designed to highlight some of the region's food system specialties, there are various short courses available for registration. The organization-building short courses — with topics like "Building Grassroots Power: Skills for Community Organizing" and "Building Diverse and Inclusive Organizations" — were funded by USDA Community Food Projects and are not included in regular conference registration. These courses take place on October 17th.
WHY is taking the helm as a co-sponsor the "Anti-Hunger Track" set of workshops scheduled for Monday, October 18 - Tuesday, October 19. Topics include: "Out with the Bad, in with the Good: Reshaping Federal Nutrition and Farm Policy;" "Navigating the Food Web: Gathering and Sharing Information on Food Security;" and "Making It Happen: Combining Anti-Hunger and Food Security Efforts at the Ground Level."
